"Speech Pathologists study, diagnose and treat communication disorders, including difficulties with speech, language, fluency and voice" - Speech Pathology Australia
The scope of a speech pathologist role is extraordinarily broad and includes supporting those with difficulties in speech production, speaking in sentences, listening and understanding language, reading, writing, social skills, stuttering, fussy eating and using voice. People who experience difficulties swallowing food and drink safely can also be helped by a speech pathologist.
Speech Pathologists can work with children and adults who have difficulty communicating for a range of reasons including developmental delays, learning disability, intellectual disability, brain injuries including stroke, dementia, and hearing loss, as well as other difficulties that can affect speech and language.
Occupational Therapists help children develop the skills they need to participate in daily life
Occupational Therapists work across a large scope based on the individual person's functional goals to "achieve optimal health and wellbeing through participation in the occupations of life" - Occupational Therapy Australia. These activities include taking care of oneself (and others), working, volunteering, and participating in hobbies, interests and social events.
Occupational Therapists can work with adults, children and families to help them successfully participate in the activities they find meaningful i.e. their interests, jobs or daily self-care tasks. Occupational Therapists can work with children with developmental delays, ADHD, Autism, Intellectual Disabilities and more.
Educators are qualified Early Childhood or Primary Teachers who provide school readiness services along side our allied health professionals
An Educator works with children and their families to prepare for daycare, preschool and school. Among Education based programs, Educators can implement specialist programs and resources provided by our internal Allied Health Professionals. Educators can work closely with families to support and coordinate services under the NDIS.
Educators in the early intervention setting predominantly work with children 0-9 years to implement school readiness programs. Educators can support children in the school and home setting achieve in curriculum area's where a child may have difficulties, such as reading and writing.
Baisie's Allied Health Assistants (AHA) work under the supervision of our Speech Pathologists and Occupational Therapists to provide individualised programs specifically designed for each client based on their personalised goals to meet therapy outcomes. The benefit of working with AHA's is that often there is capacity to provide more regular and intensive service delivery in a highly cost efficient manner.
Sessions with an AHA start with a joint session with both the Allied Health Professional (AHP) and AHA with the family to review goals and set the program. Once established the AHP and AHA meet each week to review the client program and adjust accordingly.
